Hot Water goes KABOOM

A hot water unit exploded on the roof of a factory in a large regional town in Victoria.  The hot water unit travelled almost half a kilometre before it landed on the back porch of a house.  Luckily no one was sitting there reading the morning paper at the time. Still, at 5:30am, it was a pretty rude awakening for the occupants.

It seems the thermostat failed, so of course water was heated continuously until it did what heated water in a confined space will always do.  It exploded.

Coming on the top of the DIY Disasters Competition, with the winning entry featuring some really scary modifications to a hot water unit. It's a reminder of the dangers of hot water units, and the importance of the reminding your customer they need to make sure they're regularly maintained by a licensed provider( us).
